FAQs

What is Homeschooling?

Florida law defines home education as "sequentially progressive instruction of a student directed by his or her parent or guardian to satisfy state requirements (Statutes 1003.21 and 1002.41)." This broad definition provides parents with significant freedom in directing their child's education. Across Florida, children of all ages are successfully homeschooled, with many going on to college directly from their home studies.

What is Catholic Homeschooling?

While Catholic homeschooling varies from family to family, it often goes beyond simply using a Catholic curriculum. Many parents choose this path to actively live the liturgical year, learn their faith alongside their children, and cultivate a Catholic worldview in their education. Here at ARCH Angels, we encourage you to discern God's will for your unique homeschool journey as we support each other in growing in the love of Christ and His Church.

What is a Letter of Intent, and can I see an example?

A Letter of Intent formally notifies your county school district of your decision to homeschool your child.

Please see our homeschool compliance page for additional information.

Where do I submit the Letter of Intent?

Miami-Dade County:

Dade County Public Schools Attendance Services. 489 East Drive Miami Springs, FL 33166 Email:mailto:HomeEducation@dadeschools.net

Broward county:

Broward County Public Schools District Guidance Office 600 SE 3rd Ave 12th Floor Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301

What is a Portfolio?

As a homeschooling parent in Florida, you are required to maintain a portfolio of your student's work. This portfolio must include:

  1. A log of educational activities, recorded at the time of instruction, including the titles of all reading materials used.
  2. Samples of your student's writings, worksheets, workbooks, and creative projects.

You determine the specific content of the portfolio, must keep it for two years, and make it available for inspection by the district superintendent (or their representative) if requested with 15 days' written notice. Please note that the district is not required to inspect portfolios.

Are there organizations that support homeschooling families?

Prayer For Christian Families

“Under Thy paternal gaze, O Lord,
and with confidence in Thy Providence
and in the loving patronage of Jesus,
Mary and Joseph, the family will become
a sanctuary of virtue
and a school of wisdom.”

Excerpt from Pope Pius XII’s
Prayer for Christian Families

QUOTE

"The entire educational process must be carried out with love, which is perceptible in every disciplinary measure and which does not instill any fear. And the most effective educational method is not the word of instruction but the living example without which all words remain useless."

- Edith Stein
